The title says it all... Frederich Chopin's happy, and easy-going Prelude #3 inspired the feel of this painting. The Prelude #3 comes from the suite of 24 Preludes, Op. 28 - which are themselves inspired by JS Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier! In the WTC, Bach pairs the 24 Prelude & Fugue, & presents them in all the 12 major and their relative minor keys. ie. C major - a minor; D major - b minor, etc. Bach presented his most innovative work in these Preludes & Fugues. After the first book, he still had more to say in that genre and composed a 2nd book of them called Well-Tempered Clavier Book II. Chopin 's Preludes cover all the major and minor keys, but with a unique twist. They are presented through the circle of 5ths - C major - a minor; G major - e minor, etc. Chopin dedicated this work to Robert Schumann, whose Waldscenen was a spiritual source for my painting of the same name, and which also appears as the cover for the 2004 Art International, Book Art Press. I created an animated digital multimedia movie of Lifesavers At Play - an expanded view of this painting. An excerpt of this film can be seen in my multimedia section. |
